Mitch TS #6 Child Tutoring

Today Astin and I had another great breakthrough! We read a book together cover to cover and he seemed to enjoy it a lot. The book was about an elephant and a piggy playing in the rain. I found that being as animate as possible with him was the most effective at getting him to concentrate. He has an issue where instead of actually reading a word he will just try to guess what the word is based on the beginning of the word. I have to encourage him to try to sound the word out. When he sounds it out I found that he is reading a lot better. We did a very good exercise on labeling after we read the book. He responds well to labeling and it is a good vocab/reading/writing lesson. After I ran out of materials, I decided to have some fun with him. I told him to tell me to draw anything and I would draw it and he would label it. This was fun and he responded well to it. All in all it was a great session.
